Obama and the Mainstream Media’s Complacency
Before his untimely death, Andrew Breitbart promised a “Vetting of the Prez” leading up to the 2012 election. His point was that President Obama was a radical, who wanted to lead the U.S. towards socialism.
From his speech (emphasis mine):
Barack Obama is a radical and we should not be afraid to say it… And don’t tell me, ABC, CBS and NBC that I can’t posit that theory, because it is a self-evident truth… Radicals. Radicals at “Beirut on the Charles”…And they pal around with our friends in the mainstream media. I always thought the media leaned to the left… but when they act like a Provost at a politically correct university and tell people to shut up, [then] no longer can they be called objective journalists. They’re playing for the other side.
Breitbart’s point is the media did nothing about it because they were so enamored with Obama.
This week, the vetting kicked into high gear with the release of a 1991 promotional booklet by Acton & Dystel featuring Barack Obama.
The biography (again emphasis mine):
Barack Obama, the first African-American president of the Harvard Law Review, was born in Kenya and raised in Indonesia and Hawaii. The son of an American anthropologist and a Kenyan finance minister, he attended Columbia University and worked as a financial journalist and editor for Business International Corporation. He served as project coordinator in Harlem for the New York Public Interest Research Group, and was Executive Director of the Developing Communities Project in Chicago’s South Side. His commitment to social and racial issues will be evident in his first book, Journeys in Black and White.
I don’t know who wrote the biography. Breitbart reports writers have to submit their own biographies to Acton & Dystel, while his literary agents says it was a “fact checking error” on her part. WorldNetDaily has chimed in, basically promoting how it shows their beliefs Obama isn’t from the U.S. are true. Other birthers cite a fake AP article saying Obama was from Kenya.
If the biography blurb was written by Obama, then it shows he’s willing to lie to promote himself. That’s just speculation because we don’t know who wrote the biography and I doubt we really will.
This should not be about Obama’s birthplace, but how the Mainstream Media didn’t probe hard enough into his background. Contrast it with the vetting George W. Bush received, it pales in comparison. Especially if the false claims he skipped out on Vietnam are included. It’s no wonder why Breitbart brought this up.
However, I think the point is being missed here. There are more important stories out there. Things are going to hell in Greece and Spain is having a banking crisis. U.S. Senators Casey and Schumer want to make it harder for people, like Eduardo Saverin, to leave the country and take their money instead of lowering taxes. The debt is still getting bigger and there is that entire Fast&Furious investigation.
It’s great Breitbart’s crew brought this out to show the complicit media. But people who want the “birther discussion” to be the main water cooler and twitter discussion need to focus elsewhere.
